75 years ago today, May 13, 1950, the first Formula 1 Grand Prix was held at Silverstone, England. 75 years later, F1 is still going strong and Silverstone remains on the F1 calendar.

Of course, this is only since the official organization of Formula 1. The series history actually reaches much farther back, with early races held as far back as 1894. and the first to be called a "Grand Prix" was the 1906 French Grand Prix held at Le Mans.
This first official F1 Grand Prix included 22 competing drivers, of which 21 qualified. Drivers represented Argentina, Monaco, Switzerland, Thailand, Ireland, Belgium, and nine drivers from the UK. Only eleven drivers completed the race, with the rest suffering assorted mechanical issues. Alfa Romeo took the top thee finishing spots, with Nino Farina, Luigi Fagioli, and Reg Parnell respectively. These three were the only drivers to finish on the lead lap, with fourth and fifth place being two laps down, followed the two more drivers three laps down, one five laps behind the leaders, and three six laps down.
The 2025 British Grand Prix is to be held at Silverstone on July 6.
