EA Sports has decided to suspend development of rally games. EA owns Codemasters, who developed EA Sports WRC, released in 2023, with a DLC expansion in 2024. The WRC license is returning to Nacon, who has published the WRC games prior to Codemasters.
There are mixed feelings about this. We at Absolute Zero Motorsport enjoyed the previous WRC games, but there has been fierce rivalry amongst rally fans over which rally developers produce better games and whether DiRT or WRC (under Nacon) are any good. Regardless of personal preference, WRC returning to Nacon should ensure continued WRC games, probably every year.
Supposedly they have a new vision for WRC games going forward, which will hopefully excite players that felt the previous games to have stagnated. Admittedly, they did feel like similar experiences, so hopefully we will be getting a fresh new WRC experience.
