At least from my conversations with people, the Corvette C8 seems to be fairly divisive. It's a departure from all previous generations, both in configuration and general styling. I haven't cared for the look of Chevies from the 1980s to present, but the C8 is the first Corvette of any interest to me in thirty years.
I don't know quite how to describe it, but I just don't find Chevy vehicles attractive. I did like classic Chevies, from the 50s and 60s, and maybe into the 70s, but after that they've just been hideous to me. The Corvette and Camaro have been their hot, sporty muscle cars, but even they have been bland in my eyes. The best way I can describe them is something between a heavily-used bar of soap and a door stop.
The C8 takes very different styling cues, with what clearly looks to be a European look, in particular Italian along the lines of Ferrari or Lamborghini. This isn't popular with purists that are fans of an American aesthetic and dislike foreign cars, but for me it makes it more interesting. Also to the displeasure of purists, the C8 is the first Corvette with a rear mid engine, as opposed to front or front mid seen in all previous generations. At a glance, this might seem like an effort to make the C8 more perfectly balanced, but the C7 had a 50/50 weight distribution whereas moving the engine behind the driver in the C8 actually moved it away from balanced to a 40/60 or 39/61 distribution. This may seem counterintuitive, but this allows the engine to more efficiently put power to the rear wheels, allows the front windscreen to be angled better for more downforce and less aerodynamic drag, and putting the weight over the rear wheels can push the drive wheels into the road better for more grip.

I understand that not everyone wants an American icon to seem European, but it's the first Corvette to interest me in the slightest for a long time.
